Yachts and Small Work Boats
1970 - 1983

Data Ship has been a designer of choice for traditional vessels since the mid 1970's. This finely detailed replica of a New York Bay sloop (the predecessor of the Sandbaggers of the late 1800's) was built to original drawings (although out of aluminum alloy) for a Great lakes sailing school in the mid 1970's. She is still sailing in Atlantic waters (back in Lunenburg sailing as a day charter boat as of Nov. 2011) at 33 years of age. The 21 ft. hull carries a rig measuring over 38 feet long including a 12 foot curving plank bowsprit. Although somewhat heavier than the original cedar on oak vessel would have been dry, her alloy hull does not gain a pound over a season. She still has her original douglas fir rig including an 11 ft. curving plank bowsprit . The wood epoxy centerboard (with 120 lbs. of lead ballast) and rudder have well withstood the test of time.
